Tourist Attraction in Shimla

The British called Shimla the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’. It is the summer capital of India before independence but now the capital of Himachal Pradesh. This is among the popular holiday retreat of India which is known for its  panoramic location on the hill slope, green pastures, snow-capped peaks and Victorian architectures. Shimla is known throughout the world for its  scenic views of the Himalayas and the salubrious air that attracts large number of tourists every year.  It is also one of the most prefered honeymoon spots of India. This place derived its name from the Shyamali Devi who is a re-incarnation of the fearsome Goddess Kali.

Shimla is located in the lap of nature, surrounded by pine and deodar forests that makes it a par excellent tourist destination. Arrays of adventure sports activities are the other tourists drawcard  of this place. Some of the well known attractions of this place are:

The Mall:

This is place that cannot be left unvisited by any visitors. It is the main attraction and hub of large number of shops, restaurants, a heritage theatre and above all it is a place of merriment. This is often called as heart of Shimla which is bustling with social life. This place was constructed by the British which is known for its magnificent colonial architectural design and beauty.  Some of the prominent attractions of this place are Scandal Point, Christ Church,

General Post Office and Kali Bari Temple.

Jakhu Temple, Jakhu Hill:

It is situated at the top of the famous Jakhu hill and among the most visited  places of the Shimla. According to the epic Ramayana the monkey God Hanuman rested here during his journey to the Himalayan mountains. This place is also known for the splendid  and breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

The Ridge:

Ridge attracts tourists with its wide-open plane which runs east to west alongside the Mall Road. It is a popular and famous hangout place of Shimla. This place offers splendid views of the snow-clad ranges of the Himalayas. It is the centre of cultural and social life. The most important festival that is held at the Ridge is the Summer Festival. It is held in the month of April-May and during this time the whole Shimla comes alive with flying colours.

Though Shimla has pleasant climate throughout the year but the best time to visit Shimla would be October to November and from March to May. Some of the other known attractions of this are Lower Bazaar,Viceregal Lodge, State Museum, Photo Art Gallery, Dorje Drag Monastery, Christ Church and many more.
